Hear Dr. Sofia Merajver discuss the genetics of breast cancer.  While all cancers are genetic, not all cancers are hereditary. Dr. Merajver will describe how genes are involved in the development and progression of cancers both sporadically as well as in hereditary cancers. As the Director of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk and Evaluation Program at the Rogel Cancer Center at the University of Michigan, Dr. Merajver will also provide an overview of the services available through this program.  

About Our Speaker: Sofia Merajver, MD, PhD is Professor of Internal Medicine and Epidemiology, Rogel Scholar, and GreaterGood Chair of Breast Cancer Research, at the University of Michigan.  Dr. Merajver is Director of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk Evaluation Program.  She has published 300 manuscripts in the peer-reviewed literature and has received honors and awards for her scientific accomplishments and mentorship of over 160 scientists.  The subjects of her scholarship range from precision oncology, signaling, and innovative developmental therapeutics to genetic and phenotypic determinants of aggressive cancers. In addition to her work in basic science and translational oncology, she strives to improve through research women’s global cancer health in worldwide locations, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
