Michigan Breast Cancer Coalition had their first luncheon fundraiser and Educational symposium on October 5th, 2018. Over 100 women in the local community as well as other Michigan breast cancer organizations such as Sister’s Network, Pink Fund and Komen were in attendance.

The event was sponsored by Beaumont Breast Care Center and featured a luncheon at the Village Club in Bloomfield Hills. The program featured speaker Eileen Kastura, a breast cancer survivor who has the BRCA1 gene. She discussed her breast cancer story and her personal journey including her diagnosis, treatment, family history, and advocacy experience.

Amy Sufka a genetic counselor from the Beaumont genetics department then gave a presentation highlighting how far we have come in the last decade with our understanding of the role that genetics and family history play in a breast cancer diagnosis.
